How to Be Photogenic: Posing Tips for Wedding Photography

Do any of these sound like you? Don't worry, it's normal. Most couples feel this way. Below I'll describe our approach to natural looking poses and have a video with some posing direction!

How do you know if you're photographer will give you good direction? Here are some questions you should ask:

  1. How do you direct us on our day?
  2. Don't ask "Do you direct us". They will answer yes. You want to know how.
  3. What poses work well for a couple like us?
  4. If there is anything you are insecure about, ask "How would you hide this characteristic"

You want your photographer to show you how their approach works for you.

All our photographers are personally trained and certified in these techniques by Daniel Michael. You will feel confident and look absolutely stunning! 

Notice all the elements that went into making this dip photo flow naturally.

  1. The straight line from the bride's shoulders all the way down to her pointed toe.
  2. The groom's strong posture instead of sticking his backside out.
  3. Flowers are back behind her with a straight arm instead of having a bent arm that makes it look like she's holding on for dear life!
  4. Their faces are close together to maintain the intimacy.
  5. There is no twisting to dip her creating a lack of balance and awkward pose.
  6. They are positioned to the right of the photo with her dres flowing toward the center showcasing the scenery.

There are several key aspects of this romantic pose:

  1. Her body is turned toward the camera so her shoulder is into his chest instead of her back.
  2. This allows him to hold her hand close without extending the arm keeping a more petite appearance.
  3. Turning her body keeps her from looking back at the groom which would stretch her neck making her look uncomfortable.
  4. This angle also allows him to hold her hand in a way that showcases her ring.

  1. The photographer is shooting from a low angle to use the railings to draw you to the couple.
  2. A small arch in her back creates shaping that flows down to her pointed toe.

  4. The groom has good posture but has his forhead leaned into his fiance for a more intimate vibe.
